Guided Imagery
Guided Imagery is a complementary therapy in which individuals participate actively in their healing process.
Described as imagery, visualization and self-hypnosis, guided imagery is a simple and easyprocess that some people say resembles daydreaming. To begin, an individual finds a comfortable place to lie down or sit and listens to a storyaccompanied by background music. The narrative encourages the listener to breathe, clear the mind of thoughts, relax deeply, become calm, and it provides suggestions for healing the mind, body and spirit.
Take a few moments, and listen to a sample of Dr. Goodwin's guided imagery.
Cancer research has shown that Guided Imagery:
- Enhances the immune system
- Reduces the side effects of chemotherapy
- Reduces pain
- Reduces depression and anxiety
- Reduces fatigue
- Promotes coping skills
- Increases feelings of relaxation
- Promotes feelings of comfort
Fatigue is the number one complaint of people with cancer. Dr. Goodwin's research study indicates that
this simple 25 minute CD helps women feel like they have more energy. It also reduces depression and anxiety. In fact many state that they are happier and worry less. Many of the women indicate that when they can’t sleep they play the CD and are able to fall asleep easily.
Women in this study consistently said that the guided imagery helped them feel more relaxed. One woman called it her “happy tape." Another said it helped her feel better than before she had breast cancer! These women have recommended it to their friends and the news is spreading that this easy to use CD has a positive impact on the healing process.
Guided imagery is safe and easy. There are no difficult directions to follow and after using it, you will begin noticing that you feel more relaxed very quickly. All you have to do is find a quiet and comfortable place, close your eyes, play the CD and listen to the story. ENJOY!
